There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino gambling is prohibited. Eight casinos are based in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 table games. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that highlights numerous luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
